dc.description.abstract | This study makes a descriptive and analytical approach to the study of appraisal in the Shona language. It is an examination of the sort of appraisal resources realised in the reporting of controversial parliamentary debates and political speeches in the print media. News reports from Zimbabwe's only Shona national paper, Kwayedza, are the data. The analysis is couched within the Appraisal theory. The paper argues for a cline of relation in the use of expand: entertain values in Shona news reports. Context and particularly the context of culture and history are central in Kwayedza appraisals. | en_US |
